The extraordinarily high level of government / media incompetence swirling over the Swine Flu outbreak would be laughable if there weren't any deaths.
If good news prevails, "The swine flu outbreak that has alarmed the world for a week now appears less ominous, with the virus showing little staying power in the hardest-hit cities and scientists suggesting it lacks the genetic fortitude of past killer bugs." Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30471035/
So why is government falling over itself?
We are witnessing an administration that can't even manage a simple flu outbreak without creating a national disaster out of it. This article dismisses administration incompetence and dispels their half-truths.
HALF-TRUTHS: The President: Obama told the National Academy of Sciences that he is closely monitoring the outbreak, which he called a "cause for concern, but not a cause for alarm." That's only true for healthy people. If you are "at-risk" then it's a bold faced lie, at-risk people need to be alarmed. This flu strain doesn't have a mass produced vaccine.
MORE HALF-TRUTHS: Joe Biden: "I would tell members of my family -- and I have -- I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now. It's not that it's going to Mexico in a confined aircraft where one person sneezes, that goes all the way through the aircraft". What Joe meant to say (don't listen to Gibbs) is "anyone at-risk should take precautions not to expose themselves to confined areas where other people could transmit the virus. That would be planes, public transportation, malls and other places where groups of people are in close proximity to one another. If you must travel, wear a mask, wash your hands often. But I want to emphasize that if you are NOT in a at-risk group, live a normal life. Travel freely. If you come down with the flu and test positive for Swine Flu, do the responsible thing and don't expose yourself to at risk groups."
Of course the best we could all hope for is a swine flu mutation into the "common sense virus".
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW;
The media is as dumb as a box of rocks for facilitating the confusion. Instead of asking common sense question, they focus on who said what when. Like that does anything. So in light of added media stupidity, this is what you need to know;
1.) The Swine Flu is NOT a "super-bug" that will kill the average healthy person. Here are the risk factors;
- Over age 65
- Suffer from respiratory, heart, kidney, liver, diabetes, TLA, MS and people with weak immune systems
2.) What should I do if I am not at risk? Go on vacation. Travel on a crowded plane. Live a normal life. But be forewarned: If you are exposed, you will get the flu. You will be sick. You will feel miserable. You will be CONTAGIOUS. Do not expose yourself to at risk groups. The good news is, once you recover, your immune system will have developed anti-bodies to protect you from very similar flu strains.
3.) What should I do if I am at risk? Simple. Follow Barometer-Joe's honest advice.
